Campaign Incentives Fun!
On April 12, United Way of Wyoming Valley announced Iris Lewis of Wilkes-Barre as the winner of a two-year lease on a 2021 Toyota Camry Hybrid. For the 10th consecutive year, MotorWorld Toyota has donated a vehicle to the United Way’s annual campaign. Lewis was awarded the car lease as an incentive that’s offered to campaign donors who pledge at least $3 per week, or $156 total, to the organization before Dec.15, 2021.

Sarah & Anthony F. Kane, Jr. Achievement Award
Winner: Keli Shanahan, Teacher, Dr. David W. Kistler Elementary
This award is designed to keep the spirit alive of the late Tony and Sarah Kane, as well as the ideals of charitable giving and community service that Tony and Sarah would have carried on by the PSEA movement.
Keli Shanahan was awarded the Sara & Anthony F. Kane, Jr. Award for her efforts in helping the United Way provide volunteer literacy programming at Wilkes-Barre Area School District. The award was presented by John Holland, Region Field Director for Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA). Keli has been a PSEA member for 10 years and has improved reading skills for hundreds of children by working with the United Way.
Rose Brader Community Service Award
Winner: Brenda Meli, Volunteer, Wilkes-Barre Church of Christ
Established in honor of Rosalie Brader, this award has been presented annually since 1980. This award is the highest honor for adult volunteerism presented by United Way of Wyoming Valley and honors an individual for outstanding local volunteer service.
Brenda Meli received the United Way of Wyoming Valley’s 2022 Rose Brader Community Service Award for her unwavering dedication to helping people in need. Meli serves as a long-time volunteer for the Wilkes-Barre Church of Christ, where she provides food and transportation to the homeless.
