Endowment and Planned Giving

Why should I give to an endowment fund?
An endowment gift perpetuates your care and concern for a community, an institution, or a cause. It also allows you to take advantage of tax deductions when you put together a thoughtful estate plan.

Why should I give specifically to the United Way of Wyoming Valley's Endowment Fund?
Through one gift, you can help so many people with so many different needs. United Way supports more than 30 health and human service agencies meeting identified needs in the Wyoming Valley. United Way is directed by volunteers who work to assure accountability for wise and effective use of contributed dollars. United Way is in touch with the community. Volunteers study current and future health and social service needs and plan for ways to meet those needs most effectively.

Why does the United Way need an Endowment?
An endowment secures there will be income coming in to the United Way every year. Particulary during years where the annual campaign does not reach its goal or where needs have not been met.

What does the United Way use its endowment for?
How we use the endowment depends on the wishes of our donors. If your gift is unrestricted, volunteers will apply it where the need is greatest. Each year, a portion of our endowment earnings is credited toward the annual campaign effort. Those earnings, when combined with individual and corporate campaign gifts, help maintain vital agency services in the Wyoming Valley.
