Wilkes-Barre – On January 19, 2000, a group of young children from a United Way supported program, went to Gerrity’s Supermarket, Inc., in Hanover Township to say "Thank you" to the employees for helping the United Way of Wyoming Valley raise a record campaign goal of $4.6 million. Gerrity’s presented a check to the United Way for $4,430 from their employee campaign. The donation was a combined effort from all Gerrity Supermarkets for the United Way of Wyoming Valley and the United Way of Lackawanna County.

After the check presentation, the children sang to the employees to say thank you for their generosity and stayed a while to help bake cupcakes with several Gerrity employees.
