Awards and Recognition

In order to recognize unions and their members for giving generously of their time and money, a variety of awards and recognition have been created by United Way of Wyoming Valley, which are listed below.

Campaign Performance Awards

At organized job sites that attain United Way's Gold, Silver, Bronze or Rainbow Awards for outstanding monetary contributions to the annual fund raising campaign, both the Employer and Union Name jointly appear on the award certificate.

Labor Award

The United Way Labor Award is presented at United Way of Wyoming Valley's Annual Awards event.  The award was created in 1977 and is designed to recognize either an AFL-CIO Union or Union Member, who has rendered outstanding voluntary or monetary support.  The recipient is selected by United Way of Wyoming Valley's Labor Participation Committee. Labor Leadership Giving Society Recognition Book

To recognize those union members who are making a larger "commitment to caring" by donating at a larger amount to the annual campaign, a special Labor Leadership Giving Society recognition program was created in 1999. United Way of Wyoming Valley was the first United Way within Pennsylvania and one of the first nationwide, to start such a recognition program. In 2002, United Way of America named United Way of Wyoming Valley's Labor Leadership Giving Program as a "Best Practice" among all United Ways throughout the country.

Union members who donate at the following giving levels ($300-$499, $500-$749, $750-$999 and $1,000 & above) have their name, as well as their union and employer's name, published in an annual recognition directory.

Labor Leadership Giving-Top 5 Union Awards

Special plaques are presented at United Way of Wyoming Valley's Annual Awards Event, to the top unions who have produced the highest number of Labor Leadership givers. This is a means of special recognition & publicity of the union’s generosity, as well as their worksite.
