Christmas In July Food Drive

United Way of Wyoming Valley’s Christmas in July Drive for Feeding and Reading Competition weigh-in was held at CEO’s Weinberg Food Bank in the Center Point Commerce Park in Pittston on Friday, July 29, 2016. Employees at nearly 70 area businesses, industries, schools and other organizations spent the month of July holding food drives at their locations for the Food Bank, or raising dollars to support the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which provides free, high quality books to children from birth to age 5 to promote early learning and family reading.

The 2016 Christmas in July Drive for Feeding and Reading collected over 10,000 lbs of food and $27,712 in cash donations - which equals 11,085 books for children enrolled in our Dolly Parton Imagination Library program.

Benco Dental - 1,568 lbs.
Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies - $10, 949.59

The Christmas in July Food Drive Competition started in 1989 as a way to reduce the "summer slump" in donations to area food banks. Since that time 1,431,143 lbs. of food have been collected to feed the hungry in the Wyoming Valley.

The drive runs annually during the month of July. Organizations that would like to be involved can contact Rae Baldino at for more information.
