The Northeastern Regional HIV Planning Coalition was established in October of 1991 to plan and deliver health and supportive services for persons with HIV disease. Since the late 1980's the United Way of Wyoming Valley in Wilkes-Barre, PA had convened a regional HIV Task Force to begin addressing the emerging HIV/AIDS issue. Through partnering with the regional Department of Health office in this effort, it was the United Way that was recommended to serve as Fiscal Agent for the state's final Ryan White CARE Act Coalition. An issue of local scope expanded to include the Counties of Lackawanna, Luzerne, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming.

MISSION:

To provide a comprehensive system of HIV-related care and prevention services throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania.

GOALS:

To provide for the delivery of needed HIV health and supportive services for persons with HIV disease, their family members, and significant others.

To reduce the risk of HIV transmission through prevention activities designed to change individuals behaviors and to increase community understanding of AIDS and HIV disease.

To serve as a forum for HIV planning activities.
